Academic, ‘wanna be’ sportsman, and a part time consultant; Tom holds an MSc and PhD in Organisational Psychology from the Alliance Manchester Business School, and is currently Teaching Director, Psychology Senior Lecturer in Quantitative Research Methods at a major university.
Tom’s academic work is in the areas of individual differences (personality & intelligence), and the application of these frameworks within the fields of organisational psychology and health. He specialises in quantitative methodology, specifically in psychometrics – their development, evaluation and use in applied settings. He has authored 35+ academic papers, two books, and is starting on his third – Data Analysis in R.
Tom’s consultancy activity focuses on the use of quantitative data to answer business challenges, and includes training in core methodologies and in understanding data. In these days of big data and predictive analytics, Tom has a particular focus on the basics, in understanding what you need to measure (or need to question), how best to do it (psychometrics and measurement), how best to use it to answer needs (statistical model), and how to present the data for discussion (data visualisation).
